With our soul and with our blood, we redeem you O Palestine

The actual translation of the chant is “ with our souls, with our blood, we’ll sacrifice for you Palestine” .

In Arabic the word “ نفديكِ ” nafdeek comes from the word “ فدية ” fedya which roughly translates to ( the action of sacrificing something in exchange for saving someone’s life and/or getting them out of captivity.. ) and here “نفديك ” means ( we would - do the action of fedya - for you ) .

The something that’s to be sacrificed is usually a great amount of money but it can also be something else of great value such as someone else’s life, or anything else that means the safety and freedom of the captives.

The origin of the word “ فداء ” feda or fida has a lot of meaning some of which are ( self sacrifice, ransom, an amount of money paid in exchange to release war captives ) .

It’s a beautiful word with a beautiful meaning, and I wanted people to understand what the people here are saying and HOW exactly are they saying it, the severity of their words, and how much are they willing to give …

Okay fuck so for like the entire first part I thought this person was like… Using one of those 3d pens to replace lace in this curtain somehow

Then the next couple I was like “wait are they just like painting the curtains a different color? Were the lace threads just black or something on that other one?”

Then finally it clicked and I freaked the fuck out

See the chap with glasses and an incredible moustache in the bottom right? that’s Magnus Hirschfeld, the gay Jewish doctor who ran the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (Institute for Sexual Research) in Berlin. It was largely his books, his research that the Nazis burned.

Everyone else in this photo is a trans person that Dr Hirschfeld worked with. This photo was taken at their christmas party.

It is important to note that this action was not an “oh, Nazis ALSO targetted other prople”. They directly linked Hirschfeld’s institute and research to claims of a Jewish plot to destroy German society.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because it is the EXACT same rhetoric being rolled out by prominent TERFs for the last few years including, yes, The Wizard Lady.

Antisemitism, racism, and transphobia/homophobia are ALWAYS linked together.

Makes me sick that people still celebrate this stuff
